“St. Sophia of Kyiv” closed for restoration

The oldest temple of Ukraine’s capital, St. Sophia of Kyiv, has been closed to the public due to the start of restoration works. The decision was announced due to the technical need to renovate the complex. The exact date of completion of the work is still unknown, the restoration may last several months. About it reports the capital media LIFE.KYIV.UA.

“It is planned that at the end of the restoration “Sofia Kievskaya” will offer visitors new excursion routes and viewing platforms. The reserve intends to create interactive zones that will allow a deeper insight into the history of the cathedral. Also, the updated infrastructure will be adapted for the convenience of people with disabilities,” – the report says.

As we reported earlier, on June 28, 2024, the “opening” of the ancient Transfiguration Cathedral of Chernihiv, which was taken away from the Chernihiv Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in October 2023, took place in the format of a museum. It is reported that from now on, the entrance to the church will be paid, and there are no plans to hold services there anymore.
