Georgian Church calls on authorities and protesters to refrain from mutual aggression and violence

On November 30, 2024, the press service of the Georgian Orthodox Church published a statement by the Patriarchate in connection with the ongoing protests over the escalating political crisis in the country. The Church called on the government and protesters to find understanding and reduce the level of aggression, reminding them that both sides should be guided by Christian values. The statement was published on the Facebook page of the Georgian Patriarchate.

“We call on both the government and law enforcement agencies, as well as all other members of society who are actively expressing their protest, to refrain from aggressive and offensive actions, physical and verbal clashes. Let’s not offend each other because of different opinions, and we will be able to express our position in a more civilized manner. Such negative attitudes and actions are alien to the vision of the Church and the Christian spirit in general,” — the statement reads.

Earlier we reported that the Georgian Orthodox Church supported the country’s European integration aspirations. The Georgian Church emphasized that the spiritual values and ancient culture of Georgia are an important part of the European Union.
