OCU lobbyist hopes to deprive UOC of all architectural monuments

Oleksandr Sagan, a lobbyist for the OCU, head of the Department of Religious Studies at the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences, expects that after the entry into force of anti-church law No. 3894, aimed at banning the UOC, the state will deprive the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of all real estate that is in the status of architectural monuments and communal property. He said this in a commentary to Ukrinform.

“At the very least, it will be possible to deprive the UOC-MP of the use or even ownership of state or municipal real estate. According to my data, about 3,000 such objects have been transferred to the use or ownership of religious organizations. But we still do not know how many are owned by communities of the Moscow Patriarchate, because the State Property Fund of Ukraine does not keep such statistics. And some religious communities do not have any permits for the use of religious facilities at all — they have actually seized them,” — Sagan said.

Earlier, we reported that the incorrupt relics of the Chernihiv saints, Saints Theodosius, Filaret, and St. Lawrence of Chernihiv, which are kept in the Trinity Cathedral in Chernihiv, which was taken away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, will remain on the state’s balance sheet as museum relics. The situation with the shrines will not change, despite the position of religious organizations claiming the Holy Trinity Church.
