Earlier, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople suggested that the contradictions between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches that have accumulated since 1054 will be resolved in the next few years. It is reported that the starting point should be a joint celebration of Easter, which in 2025, for Orthodox and Catholics, will be held on the same day.
Head of Phanar attends events on the occasion of the anniversary of the election of Pope Francis

On March 19, 2025, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople took part in events marking the 12th anniversary of the election of Pope Francis, held at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Istanbul. In his speech, the head of Phanar expressed hope for a joint celebration of Easter and the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. This is reported by the official website of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
It is reported that the events were also attended by Saak Mashalian, the Armenian Patriarch of Turkey, representatives of other Christian communities of the city, members of the diplomatic corps and a large community of Roman Catholic believers.
In his address, Patriarch Bartholomew once again conveyed “warm and cordial fraternal wishes for a speedy recovery to Pope Francis.” Elsewhere in his speech, he mentioned the mutual desire to jointly celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, in the year when the celebration of Easter coincides for all Christians on the calendar. He also emphasized that the different methods of counting Easter undoubtedly prevent Christians from having a stronger and more unified voice in our fragmented world.
