The court suspended the eviction of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the premises it occupies

Court proceedings in the case of the eviction of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the complex of premises of the Holy Assumption Cathedral expropriated by the state are entering a new phase. The eviction scheduled for May 29 did not take place because a person is registered as living in one of the premises of the complex. This was reported by the regional publication Bug.
According to media reports, one of the clergymen of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the UOC was previously registered in one of the premises of the Holy Assumption Cathedral complex in Volodymyr-Volynskyi in an unknown manner. It was this clergyman who filed a lawsuit demanding that the eviction be stopped, taking into account the new circumstances.
The lawsuit was accepted for consideration by the North-Western Court of Appeal. The court hearing is scheduled for June 19, 2025.
We previously reported that the Commercial Court of Volyn region denied the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s request to extend the deadline for eviction from the premises of the Holy Assumption Cathedral, which also houses the diocesan administration and a theological school. The church asked the court to grant a six-month period for eviction, but the court ruled that the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the UOC must vacate the premises expropriated in favor of the state by May 29.
