Hierarchs of the Macedonian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches held a joint divine service for the first time since the recognition of the autocephaly of the MOC-OA

On August 3, 2025, the hierarchs of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric and the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church celebrated the first Divine Liturgy in the history of their joint relations. The act of communion between the bishops of the two Churches took place at St. Leontius and the Protection of the Holy Mother of God monastery in Vodoch. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church was represented by Metropolitan Filaret of Lviv and Halych. This was reported by Religija.mk.

According to Macedonian media reports, the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Filaret of Lviv and Halych, concelebrated with Metropolitan Naum of Strumica and Bishop Jacob of Stob. Later, on one of the days of his visit to the Macedonian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Filaret prayed and received communion during the Divine Liturgy, which was led by the Primate of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop Stefan.

As reported, on September 12, 2024, the Holy Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church expressed support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – its Primate, clergy and faithful. The Synod of the MOC criticized the anti-church law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and called for prayer for a speedy resolution of the Ukrainian church crisis.
