Preventive measure extended for Metropolitan Feodosy of Cherkasy

The hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Feodosy (Snigiryov) of Cherkasy and Kaniv, remains under investigation. On September 8, 2025, the Sosnovsky District Court of Cherkasy, at the request of the prosecutor, extended the bishop’s preventive measure in the form of “house arrest.” This was reported by Suspilne.Cherkasy.

“Currently, the risks that were present at previous trials remain. The defendant may influence witnesses and commit acts of which he is suspected. These risks are justified. I request that the preventive measure in the form of house arrest be extended,” – said prosecutor Vadym Kolomiets.

In turn, the defense opposed the extension of the preventive measure, arguing that the “risks” mentioned by the prosecutor have remained the same for two years and are completely unfounded.

“We have repeatedly commented on the motion, but the prosecutor has not changed it. We want the prosecutor to listen to us and be more professional in his duties. The ‘risks’ have been the same for two years. Therefore, we object to the text of the motion,” – said the lawyer for Metropolitan Feodosy.

However, the court did not take into account the arguments of the defense and, after deliberation, decided to extend the metropolitan’s preventive measure in the form of a personal commitment to fulfill his duties for a period of two months, until November 8.

We will remind you that on September 5, 2025, the Dnipro Court of Appeals ruled to postpone the hearing in the case of the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the vicegerent of the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra, Metropolitan Arseny. The hierarch continues to be held in a pre-trial detention center without a verdict.
