Political analyst: U.S. vice president pointed out to Patriarch Bartholomew the persecution of the UOC in Ukraine

Political analyst Kostyantyn Bondarenko has reported on the details of the meeting between Patriarch Bartholomew and US Vice-President JD Vance, which took place at the White House. According to the expert, during the conversation, the American side raised the issue of persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and also requested from the Patriarch a report on his interaction with Mike Pompeo during the establishment of the OCU. About this Bondarenko told on the air of YouTube-channel Oleksandr Shelesta.

According to Konstantin Bondarenko, Vice President JD Vance, known as a supporter of religious freedoms, directly touched on the oppression of believers. «And it was clearly pointed out to Patriarch Bartholomew that there is persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine,» the political scientist said. He added that Patriarch Bartholomew’s attempt to justify himself by appealing to the Holodomor and Stalinist repressions looked unconvincing.

In addition, according to Bondarenko, at the meeting there was a demand for information about Mike Pompeo’s role in the establishment of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the awarding of the Tomos to it. «Patriarch Bartholomew was asked for a report on his relationship with Mike Pompeo, on Mike Pompeo’s involvement in the establishment of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the awarding of the Tomos. And named a specific amount, » — said the political scientist.

We will remind, earlier we reported that the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew, during his visit to the United States, said the benefits of legalizing the Ukrainian church schism and giving the Tomos on autocephaly of the OCU. He noted that he informed US President Donald Trump about this, speaking about the «justice» that has come to Ukraine due to this step of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
