In the Transfiguration Cathedral of Chernihiv, which was taken away from the UOC, there will be a "reserve" will determine the "problems of the temple" for 1.5 million hryvnias

In Chernihiv, they started to develop scientific and design documentation for the restoration of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral of the UOC, an outstanding monument of architecture of national importance of the XI century. For this purpose, the Ministry of Culture has allocated 1,498,600 hryvnias, which will be used for a comprehensive survey of the building, restoration of facades and improvement of the adjacent territory.
According to Suspilne Chernigiv, the last restoration of the cathedral was carried out in the 1990s. According to Natalia Rebrova, General Director of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Chernihiv Old Town”, the monument, which will be 990 years old next year, requires a special approach, as its condition has not been analyzed comprehensively for the last 40 years.
The work has already begun and is being carried out by the Ukrainian State Research and Design Institute “UkrNIIproektrestavratsiya”. Specialists use modern equipment to identify the main problems of the structure. “They have already done scanning of the cathedral. Moreover, it was done for the first time. Its result will give us the opportunity to identify the main problems of the roof of the cathedral”, – said Natalia Rebrova.
Based on the results of the research, a detailed plan will be drawn up, which will prioritize restoration measures. The completion of all scientific and design documentation is scheduled for the end of December 2025.
We shall remind you that earlier the general director of the reserve “Chernihiv Ancient” Natalia Rebrova stated that the institution will continue to use the temples of Chernihiv taken away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church not for their intended purpose, but for the organization of secular and cultural events in them. Rebrova claims that since these temples are historical monuments of architecture, they cannot be used exclusively for church services.
