Ireland has recorded a seven-fold increase in the number of Orthodox Christians

Ireland has seen a rapid growth in the number of followers of Orthodoxy. Over the past two decades, the number of Orthodox Christians in the country has increased almost sevenfold, signaling a significant shift in the religious landscape of the Republic.

According to figures released by Ireland’sCentral Statistics Office (Central Statistics Office), the number of Orthodox believers grew from 20,798 to 105,827 between 2006 and 2022. This impressive growth underscores the dynamic of the increasing Orthodox community in the country.

Projections indicate that this trend will continue. According to estimates, by 2025 the number of Orthodox Christians in Ireland may exceed the mark of 145 thousand people, which indicates a further strengthening of the position of Orthodoxy in the region.

Recall, earlier the head of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America, Metropolitan Savva (Esper), in his report to the 14th Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States, said in his report on the significant increase in the number of conversions to the Orthodox faith, especially among American youth. According to him, Orthodoxy in the country is being transformed from a faith of ethnic communities into a broad spiritual movement, attracting people of all backgrounds seeking spiritual authenticity and historical continuity.
