Hannover municipality sends LGBT materials to kindergartens

The municipality of the German city of Hannover found itself at the center of a public debate after the city sent a list of recommended LGBT-themed literature to 41 preschools. This initiative has caused considerable controversy over the appropriateness of such materials for the youngest children. This is reported by European Conservative.
According to the source, the recommendations were prepared by the city’s network of LGBT employees under the leadership of the Commissioner for Sexual and Gender Diversity. The materials for kindergartens, nurseries and after-school groups, according to the municipality’s representatives, are intended to promote respectful attitudes towards diversity.
Particular discussions were sparked by separate publications aimed at toddlers and pre-school children. One of the books features illustrations of characters after sex reassignment surgery, while another provides detailed explanations of body structure and advice on how to explore intimate parts on their own. A book recommended for elementary school children is Me and My Gender Dysphoria Monster, which explains gender identity through artistic imagery.
Critics of the initiative express serious concerns, deeming such materials inappropriate for children’s ages. They point to the potential impact on children’s development and relevance at such an early age. In turn, the city authorities of Hanover state that it is about the formation of tolerance and respect for diversity.
It is noted that similar educational projects on gender identity and self-expression have been previously implemented in other regions of Germany, including Berlin, where there are specialized courses for adolescents.
Recall that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has called for a complete ban on the so-called “conversion therapy”. This ban covers a wide range of practices, including religious and pastoral forms of assistance aimed at changing sexual orientation or gender identity. In addition, PACE urged its 46 member states to strengthen the promotion of LGBT ideology among children and to criminalize the use of “conversion therapy” in the areas of health, education and religion.
