Latin America is experiencing a record boom in Bible reading via smartphones

In the first quarter of 2026, Latin American countries witnessed an unprecedented increase in interest in reading the Bible through digital platforms. Millions of users are actively connecting to mobile apps, demonstrating a steady trend toward spiritual development and seeking support in today’s context.

According to Christian Daily, this surge in engagement was not a short-lived phenomenon typical of the New Year’s holiday season, but has remained steady. On Jan. 1 alone, nearly 2 million people subscribed to Bible reading plans through digital platforms.

The YouVersion app stands out in particular, surpassing the 22.2 million active users mark in a single day on the first Sunday of the year. This represents a 20% increase over the same period last year, underscoring the significant increase in interest in digital tools for scripture study.

Record numbers were recorded in several countries in the region. In Mexico, January 11 was the most active day ever for the app, with 500,000 active users in a 24-hour period. Similar peaks of activity were observed in Colombia, Argentina and El Salvador, where several January 2026 days were among the top ten most active days ever recorded.

According to the agency El Mensaje Comunicaciones, the growing interest in the Bible is linked to the search for spiritual support and hope in the face of contemporary challenges. The success of these digital tools lies in their ability to foster daily spiritual habit formation. The platforms, which cover 18 Spanish-speaking countries, continue to actively develop projects aimed at spreading the biblical message and supporting church communities in the region.

As a reminder, in Medellin, Colombia, the Serbian Orthodox parish of Holy Trinity celebrated the baptism of six young people who had completed months of catechetical training. This event, which took place over the weekend of January 17-18, was an important milestone for the small but growing Orthodox community in the region.
