UN: freedom of religion is an inalienable human right

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that “no one should be subjected to violence because of their religion or belief.” Therefore, he called on governments to prevent and combat hatred and acts of violence against religious beliefs, reports kath.net.
He made this statement on the occasion of the “International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Violence Based on Religion or Belief” .
António Guterres believes that it is “hatred incited on the Internet and beyond” that creates intolerance, discrimination and threats, and political, social and religious leaders should speak out against it.
He said that in the run-up to the “Summit of the Future” to be held in New York in 2024, the UN is developing a range of measures to combat online hate speech.
