"No one is no longer slowing down, it is ready," - MP on the law about the ban of the UOC

The head of the committee for humanitarian and information policy, an MP of the pro-presidential party, Mykita Poturaev, has spoken about how the situation is progressing with the adoption in the second reading of draft law No 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The MP does not rule out that the anti-church law, although ready for voting, may not be brought to the plenary hall due to «competing legislative priorities». About this Poturaev told in an interview with the publication Telegraf.UA.
«No one is no longer slowing down, it is ready. The Committee has taken into account the comments of the Ministry of justice, the State service of ethno-politics and freedom of conscience. When it will be ready, the table with the edits will appear on the website. And this will already mean that the Verkhovna Rada is ready to officially consider it,» Poturaev said.
Nevertheless, the MP does not rule out that the adoption of the law in the Ukrainian parliament will be delayed due to the presence of other more important legislative initiatives.
«In the conditions of competition of legislative priorities, the process of coordination of the order of consideration of bills may be delayed: it is the coordination of what is necessary for the country to just live, and we have to coordinate this at least twice a month before each plenary session. Because two or three mistakes — and there will be irreparable consequences,» — concluded the MP.
We should note that earlier we analyzed individual clauses of draft law No. 8371. It actually states that the UOC’s affiliation with the center in Russia depends on the mentioning of it in the official documents of the ROC. In other words, in order for the UOC to sever ties with Russia, the ROC must remove references to the UOC from its statutory documents.
