Phanar delegation meets with head of UOC-KP

On August 23, 2024, a delegation of the Patriarchate of Constantinople met with the head of the UOC-KP Filaret Denisenko. The parties discussed the problems of the unity of Ukrainian Orthodoxy and options for overcoming the current interchurch crisis. This is reported by the website of the UOC-KP.

“In such a difficult time for Ukraine, there is a great need for unity and harmony between all Orthodox churches in Ukraine. We are obliged to do everything possible to achieve the unity of the Church. And we firmly believe that with God’s help it is possible. The Lord is creating such conditions that we will unite into one Orthodox Church, which will be a strong spiritual foundation for our country. To do this, we need, first, to pray and put our trust in God, who is the source of good, and second, to start a dialogue and have love for each other. Without love and respect for each other, we will not be able to do anything, because love is the main and unifying feature of Christians. And after that we need to convene the All-Ukrainian Local Council, which would unite all three branches of Orthodoxy,” – said Denysenko.

In their turn, representatives of the Patriarchate of Constantinople agreed that in order to achieve unity, love must prevail and a dialogue must begin. They also noted that Phanar is interested in helping the unity of Orthodox denominations in Ukraine and overcoming difficulties on this path.

As we reported earlier, on August 22, 2024, a delegation of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which arrived in Ukraine to try to resolve the church conflict, held a series of meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the OCU.
