In Zhytomyr region, an unknown person set fire to the UOC church

The Zhytomyr Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reported that the Holy Protection Church in the village of Zeremlya, Baraniv district, Zhytomyr region, was set on fire. It is reported that as a result of the fire, which occurred on September 4, 2024, the church completely burned down inside and out. The statement is posted on the website of the Zhytomyr Eparchy of the UOC.

“The press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region reports: “the fire broke out in the building of the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The fire was localized at 23:50 and completely eliminated at 00:19. The fire destroyed the roof, ceiling and property inside the building. All the circumstances of the incident are currently being established by experts.” However, according to preliminary circumstances and the conclusions of police officers, the fire was caused by arson, which was deliberately committed by a criminal,” — the press service said.

As we reported earlier, on the night of August 23, 2024, an unknown person threw a grenade into the adapted premises of the Holy Protection religious community of the UOC in the village of Strelsk, Rivne region (Sarny Diocese of the UOC), where believers were performing services. Earlier, the local Holy Protection Church was seized by representatives of the OCU, as a result of which the UOC community had to look for another place to meet their religious needs.
