The media has calculated the amount of real estate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Granted edition of NGL Media has published a register of real estate owned by religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. According to the data, the UOC has the most real estate in Kiev and Kiev Region, and the least in Lviv Region. The data is published on the website of the organization.

According to calculations, the total amount of real estate owned by religious organizations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in different forms of ownership amounted to 6674 objects. Of these – 3,798 land plots and 2,876 religious buildings. The published infographic indicates that most of the property is in communal ownership, i.e. it is used by UOC congregations on the rights of lease or agreements on permanent use.

In turn, there are also cases when real estate is privately owned by religious organizations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Most of all such properties are in Kyiv and Kyiv region.

Thus, in Kiev and Kiev region the UOC has 1520 and 850 hectares of land respectively. In Odessa region – 258 hectares, in Donetsk region – 243 hectares, in Sumy region – 189 hectares, in Kharkiv region – 180 hectares, in Dnipropetrovsk region – 170 hectares, in Chernihiv region – 159 hectares, in Vinnitsa region – 193 hectares, in Chernivtsi region – 138 hectares, in Rivne region – 135 hectares, in Cherkassy region – 113 hectares, in Poltava region – 103 hectares, in Zakarpattya region – 98 hectares, in Mykolayiv – 95 ha, in Zaporizhzhya – 94 ha, in Kherson – 73 ha, in Volyn – 70 ha, in Khmelnitsky – 58 ha, in Kirovograd – 43 ha, in Zhytomyr – 38 ha, in Lugansk – 29 ha, in Ternopil – 18 ha, in Ivano-Frankivsk – 5 ha, in Crimea – 4 ha, in Lviv – 1 ha.

Recall, earlier we reported that according to the provisions of the anti-church law No. 3894 (formerly No. 8371) “On the protection of the constitutional order in the sphere of activities of religious organizations”, adopted on August 20, 2024 in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, state authorities have the right to prematurely terminate lease agreements for land plots, religious buildings and other premises, which were concluded with religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
