The trial on the expropriation of the cathedral of Volodymyr-Volyn diocese of the UOC postponed again

On October 1, 2024 the Economic Court of Volyn region held a regular preparatory hearing on the case of possible eviction of the Office of the Vladimir-Volyn Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the complex of premises of the Holy Dormition Cathedral in the city of Vladimir-Volynsky, where the diocesan office and theological school are also located. Due to the absence of the defendant, the judge was forced to postpone consideration of the case to November 5, 2024. This is reported by the publication “Bug”.

It is reported that the meeting was attended by a representative of the plaintiff – chief specialist-lawyer-legal adviser of the legal Department of the Volyn regional state administration Alexander Garnola. As a third party, the head of the historical and cultural reserve “Ancient Vladimir” Volodymyr Pikalyuk arrived. The case was considered by the judge Igor Garbar. He informed that the representative of the defendant again petitioned to postpone consideration of the case, as his client is allegedly on sick leave. However, this time the motion was not granted, as the defendant can be represented by a third party, in particular, a lawyer. Therefore, despite the fact that the representatives of the UOC once again did not come to the meeting, the trial on the merits was still scheduled for November 5.

Earlier we reported that the Volyn Regional Council filed a lawsuit against the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The subject of the litigation is the complex of premises of the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, which also includes the diocesan administration and theological school of the Volodymyr-Volynskyi Diocese of the UOC, from which the local authorities are trying to evict the Church.
