Earlier, the head of the OCU, Epiphany Dumenko, spoke about the adoption of Bill 8371 in the Verkhovna Rada, aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Epiphany called the event a “historic decision” and again called on representatives of the UOC to begin “a dialogue without preconditions.”
OCU disappointed with lack of response of UOC to call for “unconditional dialogue”

The Synod of the OCU, held in Kyiv on November 7, 2024, regretted the lack of response from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to Epiphany Dumenko’s call to start a dialogue “without preconditions.” The OCU, however, hopes that the UOC will agree to the requirements of the Tomos and join the organization. This is reported by the official website of the OCU.
“Having heard the message of the Primate about his Appeal of August 15, 2024, addressed to Metropolitan Onuphry in Kyiv and all the hierarchs, clergy and laity who are with him, calling for dialogue to achieve church unity, the Synod expressed full support for the position set out in this Appeal. The said Appeal is in line with the position repeatedly confirmed on this issue by the Local and Bishops’ Councils and the Holy Synod of the OCU. The Holy Synod is deeply disappointed with the complete lack of response from the addressee of the Appeal, which reminds us of the words of Scripture: “We played you on the flute, but you did not dance, we sang you songs of mourning, but you did not weep” (Luke 7:32). However, the Synod does not give up hope for a constructive response to the Appeal and positive steps from both Metropolitan Onufriy and the representatives of the jurisdiction he leads,” — the statement reads.
