Jerusalem Patriarchate to hold theological conference dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council

On December 26, 2024, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church was held in Jerusalem. Among the decisions taken at the meeting was a resolution to hold a theological conference in 2025 dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. This was reported by the official website of the Jerusalem Patriarchate.

“To convene a theological conference at the Holy Cross Monastery in memory and in honor of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in Constantinople, which condemned Arianism as a heresy and enshrined the divinity of Christ with the term Homoousion (“co-existent”) in the confession of faith known as the Nicene Creed,” — the Synod’s resolution reads.

Earlier we reported that Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople drew attention to the importance of the joint celebration of Easter for the further establishment of unity with the Roman Catholic Church. The head of the Phanar believes that the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council will also help accelerate this process. In addition, 2025 marks 60 years since the lifting of the mutual anathemas between the Vatican and the Phanar, which were imposed in 1054.
