The Primate of the Albanian Church concelebrated with the Patriarch of Constantinople at the Phanar

On June 15, 2025, a joint service was held by Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and Archbishop John, Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, at the Patriarchal Church of St. George in Phanar. The service took place as part of the first visit of the newly elected head of the Albanian Church to Phanar. This was reported by The Orthodox Times.

“Our cooperation and unity are especially necessary today, when the world is shaken by bloody conflicts and wars that claim thousands of victims and countless refugees. The Orthodox Church must speak out and bear witness against violence and conflict, advocating dialogue and the triumph of peace. Especially at this critical moment, when all eyes are once again turned to the long-suffering Middle East, where events are taking on dangerous and uncontrollable proportions. Therefore, we strongly urge the leaders and governments of the countries and peoples involved to show the necessary restraint, first and foremost in their own interests, but also for the good of all humanity,” – Patriarch Bartholomew said in his welcoming address.

In turn, Archbishop John of Albania noted his commitment to the ideas of the head of the Phanar and thanked him for his unwavering support of the Albanian Church.

“The Church’s mission to unite peoples and lead them to the light of the Resurrection remains as relevant and urgent as ever. The Albanian Church, to the best of its ability, is ready to serve in this great cause. Your Holiness, please accept our heartfelt gratitude for your paternal love and unwavering support for the Albanian Church. Our presence today in Phanar proclaims our love, respect, and devotion to Your Eminence and to the high institution that you divinely represent,” – said the primate of the Albanian Church.

Earlier, the Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop John, spoke about the Ukrainian church issue. The First Hierarch drew attention to the fact that the creation of the OCU split world Orthodoxy, noting that the Synod of the Albanian Church expressed its position on this issue and it remains unchanged.
