Over 700 Religious Sites Damaged in Ukraine During Three Years of War

Over the course of three and a half years of military actions in Ukraine, at least 700 religious sites have been damaged or destroyed, the majority belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. During the entire war, no fewer than 346 UOC churches have been affected. This data is provided by the Workshop of Academic Religious Studies, reports the UOC Information and Educational Department, citing the Workshop’s data.

Additionally, statistics indicate damage to 66 OCU sites, 28 Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic Church sites, 178 Protestant communities, 8 Muslim, 20 Jewish, and 10 other religious institutions.

Earlier, it was reported that the head of the Desniansky district administration in Kyiv, Maksym Bakhmatov, shared his reflections on the influence of Orthodoxy on the development of state policy. Bakhmatov claims that Catholicism or Protestantism is more favorable for the success of the state than Orthodoxy. The official asserts that there is no successful country in the world where Orthodoxy holds a dominant position.
