Earlier, we reported that Ukrainian MPs Oleksandr Dubinsky and Artem Dmitruk sent an appeal to US President Donald Trump, in which, among other things, they asked him to ensure that the issue of protecting the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was included in the peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The MPs hope that during the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, the persecution of clergy and believers of the UOC will become one of the important points of negotiation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has once again identified the Ukrainian church issue as a condition for peace talks

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that ending the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is one of the conditions for the start of a peaceful settlement between Russia and Ukraine. Zakharova noted that this issue, along with others, should become the “basis for security guarantees.” This was reported by the publication Apostrophe.
It is reported that during the briefing, Zakharova stated that:
“… security guarantees must be based on a common understanding that takes into account Russia’s security interests.”
Among the conditions, Zakharova mentioned:
- recognition of “territorial realities”;
- ‘denazification’ and “demilitarization” of Ukraine;
- neutral, non-aligned, and non-nuclear status;
- ensuring the rights of the Russian and Russian-speaking population;
- cessation of persecution of the “canonical Orthodox Church.”
