In Vinnytsia, the Raikher synagogue will be restored for budget funds

Vinnitsa is preparing for the restoration of the historic Raikhers Synagogue, an architectural monument of local importance of the early 20th century, located at 11 Chervonokrestovskaya Street. The city authorities have allocated the first 800 thousand hryvnias for preparation for restoration works. These funds will be used for the development of scientific and design documentation, which will be the basis for the future full-scale restoration of the building.

According to the publication 20 hvilin, the Executive Committee of the City Council authorized the development of the necessary documentation, and the corresponding contract has already been concluded on the portal Prozorro. The contractor, FOP Vladimir Mikhaylovich Povkh, must perform a full range of design works. This includes engineering surveys to assess the technical condition of the building, development of architectural and structural solutions and drawing up a master plan of the restoration organization. It is important to note that the allocated amount does not cover the construction works themselves — a separate tender will be announced for them after the design is completed.

The synagogue building, built in 1903 by order of doctor Reicher, is one of the brightest examples of Jewish architecture in Vinnytsia. The project was designed by the famous city architect Grigory Artynov. In the early 20th century, the synagogue was the spiritual center of the area known as «Lower Yerusalimka». However, in the late 1920s, during the anti-religious campaign, the building housed a sports school, and in 1945 it was renovated with funds from the «Spartak» sports society.

Currently, the former synagogue still houses the regional children’s and youth sports school. However, the recent decision of the Vinnytsia Regional Council to change the legal address of the school indicates that the school is preparing to move, which will free the building for restorers. The structure itself is a one-story red brick building with a symmetrical facade, Gothic windows and a high main hall, which occupies the height of two floors.

Recall, earlier we reported that 9.4 million hryvnias will be allocated from the budget of Lviv region for the restoration of the UGCC church. We are talking about the wooden church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in the village of Verkhnyaya Rozhanka, Slavsky district, Lviv region. At the same time, according to media reports, a corruption component was revealed in the process, as the prices for restoration materials were significantly inflated.
