A cell of a UOC monastery burned down in Transcarpathia

In Transcarpathia, a fire broke out on the territory of the Holy Protection Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Kostrina, Uzhgorod district. The fire completely destroyed the wooden building of the cell with an area of 170 square meters, but there were no casualties. It is important to note that the nearby ancient wooden church of the XVII century was not threatened.
As reported by ZAXID.NET with reference to the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region, the incident occurred in the evening of December 10. The origin of the fire was a wooden one-story room with a mansard floor, which, according to rescuers, at the time of the fire was not inhabited. The flames were first noticed by clergymen living nearby, who immediately reported the incident to the rescue service.
State Emergency Service units from Velykyi Bereznyi, Perechyn and Uzhgorod, as well as volunteers from Volosyanka village were involved in extinguishing the fire. Despite the fact that the fire quickly spread through wooden structures, the rescuers managed to localize and completely extinguish the fire in 2.5 hours. To combat the flames were laid main lines, and water was drawn from the local rate.
It is noted that the fire did not pose a threat to the nearby architectural monument of national importance — the wooden church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This church, erected in 1645 in the village of Sianki in Lviv region, was bought and moved by the community of Kostrina village to its present location in 1703. The monastic hermitage is located in close proximity to this unique structure.
The cause of the cell fire is currently being established by law enforcement agencies.
We shall remind you that on August 20 in the morning in the village of Novoselki, Kyiv region, there was a fire in the adapted premises, where the parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was performing services. The parish believes that the current fire was another manifestation of systematic pressure on the UOC community.
