A rally in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held in Georgia

On September 1, 2024, an action in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held in Tbilisi. The participants of the event protested against the law adopted in Ukraine aimed at banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is reported by the ROC DECR Communication Service.

“We expressed support for our Orthodox brothers and sisters in Ukraine. Law 8371 is aimed directly at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is the only canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” — said the organizer of the action, Gulbaat Tskhiladze.

In addition, the participants brought posters calling for the protection of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the release of Orthodox hierarchs and clergy who have been prosecuted in Ukraine.

“Dear brothers and sisters! We are writing to you from Georgia, one of the oldest Christian countries. We are not indifferent to the fate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, since there is one Orthodox Church of Christ, in which we are all united, regardless of nationality and citizenship,” — one of the participants of the action read out an appeal to the Orthodox believers of Ukraine.

It is worth noting that representatives of the local Orthodox Churches regularly speak in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. We recently reported that a rally in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held in the Slovak capital Bratislava. Orthodox Slovaks and Ukrainians who gathered under the walls of the Ukrainian embassy demanded that the pressure on the UOC be stopped and that hierarchs, clergy and believers be released from prison.
