The Pontiff's health condition is critical

Pope Francis’ health remains critical. Although the head of the Vatican is conscious, he is under supplemental oxygen, and doctors have recorded initial renal failure. This was reported by the Vatican press service on February 23.
“The condition of the Holy Father remains critical, but he has not had a single respiratory crisis since yesterday evening. The Pope has received two courses of red blood cell concentrate, which has been beneficial and has restored his hemoglobin levels. Thrombocytopenia remains stable, but some blood tests indicate initial, mild renal failure, which is under control. Oxygen therapy through nasal cannulas is ongoing, and the Holy Father remains conscious and well oriented. The complexity of the clinical picture and the necessary expectation of the results of pharmacological therapy mean that the prognosis remains restrained,” – the press service said.
Earlier, Italian Roman Catholic Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi suggested that Pope Francis may resign due to health difficulties. The Cardinal added that the Pontiff would like to take part in the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council before he leaves, but it is not known whether he will be physically able to wait for this moment.
