A Kyivan Rus temple, formerly owned by the UOC, is transferred to the OCU

On May 11, 2025, representatives of the OCU held religious events in one of the oldest churches in Kyiv, St. Cyril’s Church. The church, which is an architectural monument of national importance, was built in the early XII century, and since 1994 has been used by the St. Cyril’s religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was later transformed into a monastery. However, according to the OCU, the shrine has now been transferred to the use of their organization. This was reported by the press service of the OCU.

“From now on, until the liberation of Luhansk region from Russian occupation, St. Cyril’s Church will be the center of the Luhansk diocese, so representatives of local authorities of the region, headed by the head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration — the head of the regional military administration Oleksiy Kharchenko, as well as internally displaced persons, prayed at the service,” — the press service of the OCU said.

As reported, on March 25, 2025, the City Council of Kropyvnytskyi (former Kirovohrad — ed.) transferred the local Holy Protection Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with a complex of adjacent premises to the OCU. The church was transferred at the request of a number of public organizations, and now it will be a “garrison church.”
