Vatican considers visit to Serbia

Cardinal Ladislav Nemeth said that Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Matsuta has sent an official invitation to the Pope to visit the country. However, according to a Catholic Church spokesman, “the head of the Catholic Church will never go to a place where there is resistance to the visit from the local Church and society.” Security issues, the program of the visit, and the reaction of traditional religious communities remain important factors. This was reported by the KoSSev news portal.

Despite caution on the part of the Vatican, Nemeth said that the issue of the pontiff’s visit “is being considered and will probably be satisfied in the near future.” In addition, the establishment of a mission to the Holy See, which will not have diplomatic status, is being discussed separately.

Recall also that the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfiry of Serbia, sent a congratulatory letter to the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, on the occasion of his election to the papal throne. The Patriarch believes that the election of an American as head of the Vatican is a divine providence.
