As a reminder, on June 5, 2025, the Court of Appeal in Dnipro upheld the decision of the court of first instance to transfer St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv to the permanent and free use of the Roman Catholic parish community. In doing so, the court affirmed the right of Roman Catholic believers to reclaim one of Ukraine’s main Catholic churches — a matter under consideration at various levels of government for more than two decades.
The state continues to sabotage the transfer of the Mykolaiv Church in Kyiv to the local Roman Catholic community

Representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the House of Organ Music held a meeting with members of the Roman Catholic community in Kyiv, during which the Roman Catholic Church was informed of the impossibility of implementing the court decision on the transfer of the St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv to the ownership of a religious organization. The Ministry of Culture considers the court decision to transfer the church to the ownership of the religious community to be illegal. This was reported by Interfax.
It is reported that during the meeting, representatives of the parish of St. Nicholas pointed to the existence of a valid decision of the Court of Appeal, which, according to the law, is subject to mandatory enforcement. The parish’s lawyers warned of the consequences of failing to comply with this court decision.
However, representatives of the National House of Organ and Chamber Music responded with “unconstructive statements.” In particular, they stated that the court decision was “illegal” and “cannot be implemented,” despite the fact that it is a final court decision. At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Culture noted that he did not know how to resolve this issue.
