Zelensky Awards Order of Merit, 2nd Class, to Ukraine’s Chief Rabbi

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree awarding Chief Rabbi of Kyiv and Ukraine, Moshe Reuven Asman, the Order of Merit, 2nd Class. The award, timed to coincide with Ukraine’s Constitution Day, was granted “for contributions to strengthening Ukrainian statehood, defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” as well as for active civic engagement. The decree was published on the official website of the President.
According to the decree, Asman was honored “for significant contributions to strengthening Ukrainian statehood, courage and dedication shown in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, a substantial personal contribution to the development of various spheres of public life, advocacy for national interests, and conscientious performance of professional duties.”
It is also worth noting that President Zelensky awarded the Order of Merit to Ivan Chokalyuk, a chaplain and relative of the head of the OCU, who was actively involved in the attempted forceful seizure of the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the UOC in Chernivtsi. This award was also presented in honor of Constitution Day.
