Inspection at Bancheny Monastery Reveals No Violations in Child Care

Psychologists and experts from a state commission who recently inspected the living conditions of children in the orphanage at the Ascension Bancheny Monastery found no signs of violence, stress, or mistreatment. This was reported on July 17, 2025, by the C4 website, citing the monitoring results, according to the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
According to the report, the working group was established by the Chernivtsi Regional Administration. As part of their visit, specialists examined the conditions in which the children under the care of Metropolitan Longin of Banchy live. The inspection was prompted by media reports alleging abuse and violations in the upbringing of the children. However, these allegations were not confirmed.
The commission concluded that the children appeared healthy, were open to communication, and showed no signs of psychological or physical pressure. They live in three separate buildings: one each for boys, girls, and children with disabilities. All facilities were found to be clean and well-maintained. The building for children with limited mobility is equipped with an elevator and assistive devices.
The children receive medical care and undergo regular health check-ups. An educational program is in place, with some children pursuing vocational or higher education.
In the commission’s final conclusion, it was stated that there are no threats to the life or health of the children.
It should be noted that the Office of the Ukrainian Ombudsman, social services, the National Police, the Children’s Services Department of the Chernivtsi Regional Administration, and other government bodies also conducted inspections of the orphanage at the Holy Ascension Bancheny Monastery of the UOC. A special commission was created by the state to investigate the reported allegations of «violence against children.»
