Political analyst urged the Ukrainian authorities to cancel discriminatory laws against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Ukrainian political analyst Kostyantyn Bondarenko has said that the country’s authorities need to take decisive measures to restore the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). In his opinion, in the context of the negotiations, the key steps should be the repeal of the discriminatory legislation adopted in recent years and the revision of decisions on the illegal transfer of church property.

The expert insists on the priority abolition of laws against the UOC. “It is necessary to cancel these discriminatory laws against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which have been adopted in recent years. This is an important point,” the source quotes the political scientist as saying.

In addition, Bondarenko pointed to the importance of revising the regulatory acts on the basis of which, according to him, “property was seized from one church and transferred to other churches absolutely illegally.” He stressed that although this process may take time, it should start with the abolition of the laws, which he characterized as “absolutely unscrupulous” and aimed at “discrimination of citizens on the principle of faith”.

We will remind, earlier the Financial Times reported on a new draft peace plan for Ukraine, which was prepared jointly by representatives of the United States and Russia. According to the publication dated November 19, 2025, the 28-point document was handed over to the Kiev authorities and contains conditions concerning the status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
