The US Vice President praised the role of the Patriarch of Georgia at the meeting in Milan

Georgian President Mikhail Kavelashvili held an important meeting with U.S. Vice President D.J. Vance and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Milan. During the official reception held on February 6, the American officials expressed their appreciation for Georgia’s Christian identity and traditions, and emphasized the work of the Patriarch of Georgia.

According to Orthodox Times, President Kavelashvili was pleasantly surprised by the U.S. Vice President’s deep awareness of Georgia’s Christian roots and commitment to traditional values. According to the Georgian leader, D.J. Vance spoke warmly of Georgia and mentioned the Patriarch of Georgia, recognizing his key role in preserving the country’s spiritual heritage.

During the conversation, the US Vice President touched upon the recent establishment of the National Day of Prayer in the United States on May 17. President Kavelashvili noted that Georgia had already established May 17 as Family Purity Day a decade ago, following the initiative of the Patriarch of Georgia. This information, according to the Georgian President, aroused sincere interest and pleasure of the American Vice President, emphasizing the commonality in understanding the importance of family and Christian values.

President Kavelashvili also informed his American counterparts that this year Georgia is celebrating the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity, planning large-scale celebrations throughout the country. This announcement, as Kavelashvili noted, was met with obvious interest and appreciation, which shows respect for Georgia’s spiritual heritage and the central role of the Patriarch of Georgia in protecting the Christian identity of the nation.

We would like to remind you that earlier we reported that the Abbot of the Athonite monastery of Vatoped, Elder Ephrem, made an official visit to the capital of Georgia, where he delivered a speech at the City Council of Tbilisi and brought a miracle-working icon for the worship of the faithful. The visit, which took place in a warm and touching atmosphere, was aimed at strengthening the centuries-old spiritual ties between Georgia and the Holy Mount Athos.
