Oleksandr Usyk criticizes the government's policy towards the UOC and declares his readiness to run for president

World-famous boxer and world champion Oleksandr Usyk has sharply criticized the Ukrainian authorities for their policy towards the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). The athlete stated that such actions lead to a split in society. In addition, Usyk confirmed his readiness to take the presidency of Ukraine if “God gives him a chance.”
According to RBC, Oleksandr Usyk expressed his opinion during a conversation with pranksters who introduced themselves as Polish President Karol Navrotsky. The boxer, who claims to be Orthodox, drew parallels with the situation in Poland, where, according to him, the Orthodox and Catholic churches coexist peacefully, and “no one gives one church more rights and the other less.”
Usyk emphasized that the current policy towards the UOC is “a blow to our people” and leads to its division. “We ourselves divide our people into two camps. This is a huge problem. Do not touch people. We must work together, not divide ,” the publication quotes the champion as saying.
When asked by the pranksters about his possible presidency, Oleksandr Usyk answered in the affirmative, saying: “If God gives me a chance, if God sends me a sign, I will work for the good of my country.”
Earlier, we reported that another Ukrainian boxer, Oleksandr Usyk, paid for the flight, accommodation and tickets to his fight with Englishman Tyson Fury for 20 members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the so-called chaplain of the OCU, Volodymyr Ridnyi, who participated in the seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cherkasy.
