Oleksandr Usyk says he plans to run for president of Ukraine

Ukrainian boxer, WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who, despite a number of scandalous antics, continues to position himself as a believer in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, has announced his political ambitions after his sports career. The athlete said he plans to run for president of Ukraine to “work for the state.” This was reported by UNIAN.

During a conversation with host Andriy Bidnyakov on the Where’s the Lie program, Usyk answered an ironic question about the possibility of becoming mayor of Konotop, noting that he does not consider a position lower than the presidency. “I plan to box for a few more years. And then I have plans to work for the state. I am not going to go lower than the president,” the boxer said.

Earlier, Usyk was asked about a possible run for mayor of Kyiv, but he denied such plans. In addition to sports, the boxer is also involved in business. In addition, it is known that on May 23, Usyk will fight with world kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven in Egypt.

Earlier, Oleksandr Usyk harshly criticized the Ukrainian authorities for their policy towards the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). The athlete said that such actions lead to a split in society. In addition, Usyk reiterated his readiness to take the presidency of Ukraine if “God gives him a chance.”
