A fire broke out at the Holy Trinity Church of the UOC in Chernivtsi

On March 31, a fire broke out in the building of the Holy Trinity Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in one of the districts of Chernivtsi. Witnesses noticed smoke coming from under the roof and called the emergency services. This was reported by the Media Agency ASS, citing the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) in the Chernivtsi region.

Firefighters from the 1st State Fire and Rescue Unit arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished over an area of 20 square meters, and the building was saved. The fire damaged the ceiling and roof structure.

The Holy Trinity Church is an active Orthodox church under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It was built in the 1930s in the Klokuchka area in honor of the Holy Trinity.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Earlier, it was reported that in February 2025, the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration effectively stripped three of the largest Ukrainian Orthodox Church communities in Chernivtsi of their legal status. The RSA re-registered the charters of the Holy Spirit Cathedral, St. Nicholas Church, and St. Peter and Paul Church, referring solely to protocols from territorial meetings of supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), who conducted votes on «transferring churches from the UOC to the OCU» with clear procedural violations. The RSA ignored the protocols of similar meetings held by the UOC communities, which confirmed their desire to remain part of the canonical Church.
