Trump: “We Are Bringing Religion Back to America”

On May 2, the National Day of Prayer, Donald Trump announced the establishment of the Religious Liberty Commission by signing an executive order at the White House. “We are bringing religion back to America — quickly and boldly,” he declared during a speech in the Rose Garden. According to Trump, “America can only be a great nation when it is a nation under God.” This was reported by the official channel of the Trump administration.
The Commission, as envisioned by the administration, will focus on developing mechanisms to protect religious freedom, studying the historical foundations of this right in the U.S., and addressing current threats to believers. Priorities include the right of parents to raise their children in faith, support for religious education, protection of churches from pressure, and institutional independence for religious bodies.
The Commission will include clergy members, scholars, human rights advocates, and government officials. They will advise the administration on conscience rights and help shape policy proposals in this area. “We want to defend all people of faith and their freedom — not only in America, but around the world,” Trump emphasized.
In his remarks, he also harshly criticized the previous U.S. administration. Trump described the “persecution of peaceful Christians” and the “ignoring of anti-Christian violence” as deliberate policy choices by the Biden administration. He stated that the former leadership “systematically restricted religious freedom,” including by cutting off funding to organizations that did not align with its ideology.
As a reminder, well-known American journalist Tucker Carlson once again drew attention to the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, noting that the Ukrainian government had outlawed the country’s largest Christian denomination.
