In Khmelnitsky region more than 200 religious figures received reservations from mobilization

More than two hundred clergymen in Khmelnytsky region have been booked from military service in accordance with Ukrainian legislation. The reservation was given to the heads of religious organizations that were recognized as critical for the functioning of the economy and ensuring the life of the population during the special period. The data was provided by the State Service of Ukraine on Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience (SSEC).
According to the portal Suspilne Khmelnitsky, referring to the response of the agency, the basis for reservation is the inclusion of a religious organization in a special list approved by the DESS. In total, this list includes 9,216 organizations throughout Ukraine, of which 545 operate in Khmelnytskyi region. The procedure is regulated by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 76 of January 27, 2023.
The number of those booked included 224 clergymen representing various religious denominations. The largest number of representatives 66 clergymen of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine; 35 clergymen of the Ukrainian Church of Evangelical Christians; 22 clergymen of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church; 56 clergymen of the Roman Catholic Church; 29 clergymen of the All-Ukrainian Union of Evangelical Christian Baptists; 7 clergymen of the Ukrainian Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists;In addition, one representative each was booked from nine other religious communities, including Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jewish and Messianic organizations.
A total of 2,002 religious organizations of various orientations officially operate in Khmelnytsky region. The State Service on ethno-politics and freedom of conscience also specified that in 2022, 2023 and 2024 the reservation of clergymen was not conducted.
We shall remind you that earlier we reported that the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience published a list of criteria according to which religious figures can be granted deferment from mobilization. According to the said list, clergymen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will not be able to be reserved from mobilization, as the UOC falls under the anti-church law No. 3894.
