Australia and more than 20 European countries have condemned Hungary for banning LGBT pride parades in the country. In a statement, these countries said that Budapest is allegedly restricting the “right to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression” in this way. This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.
It is reported that the statement in defense of LGBT people was signed by the embassies of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Finland, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Sweden.
“We commit ourselves to respect, protect and fulfill the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual characteristics, and to combat discrimination on these grounds,” – the statement reads.
Earlier, we reported that on March 18, 2025, the Hungarian Parliament banned gay pride parades in the country. The authorities will be able to use facial recognition tools to identify people attending banned events.
